Wrist surgery for Encarnacion, Wells

Toronto centre fielder Vernon Wells has had surgery to repair some cartilage damage in his left wrist and is expected to be ready for spring training.

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Edwin Encarnacion underwent surgery on his left wrist last week while centre-fielder Vernon Wells is expected to have surgery on his left wrist next week.

Both players should be ready ahead of spring training, the team said Tuesday.

Encarnacion had a large bone spur shaved off his hamate bone Friday. He missed about two months last season with a fracture in his left wrist.

The procedure for Wells will repair some cartilage damage.

He suffered through a miserable year at the plate, hitting .260 with 15 homers and 66 RBIs in 158 games.
