Dean Blundell has a new gig as co-host of the morning show of The Fan 590.Peter Power/The Globe and Mail

As it turns out, incoming Sportsnet The Fan 590 morning man Dean Blundell will get a new sidekick instead of holdover Andrew Walker from the present morning team on the radio station.

Upon further review, as they say, Walker will join outgoing morning host Greg Brady doing the afternoon shift from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. starting March 2, according to a source close to station owner Rogers Communications Inc.

There were rumblings in radio circles over the last couple of days that Sportsnet was not done tinkering with its lineup after initially announcing the shakeup of its morning show.

Blundell, who made his name as a shock jock on Toronto radio station 102.1 The Edge before getting fired in 2014 after making on-air comments deemed homophobic, was hired to attract a younger demographic to The Fan 590 in hopes of expanding its ratings to attract more advertisers.

The identity of Blundell's sidekick is not known, as the station is still conducting auditions. The source indicated it would be someone from outside the Toronto market and someone with a strong sports background to cover Blundell, who showed in a trial run on The Fan 590 last year that overall sports knowledge is not one of his strengths.

One of the candidates may be one of the morning men on Rogers' Calgary sports radio station, Dean (Boomer) Molberg. A decision is expected by the end of the week.

Editor's note: The radio station is called 102.1 The Edge; it is not 102.5 as previously reported.
