Graham DeLaet picked up his first world ranking points of 2015 - and second of the new golf season - with a tie for 30th at the Humana Challenge. It was only the second tournament of the new season in which he managed to play all four rounds, having missed the cut at the Sony Open following a pair of withdrawls due to injury towards the end of last year. He still lost a couple of places in the world rankings, falling to No. 65 - the lowest he's been since the 2013 PGA Championship when he was ranked 75th.
On the amateur side of things, Corey Conners completed his Australian tour by with a quarter-final loss in the match play portion of the Australian Amateur. The Golf Canada National team member was leading Australian Kevin Yuan 1-up until a bogey on No. 15 put the match back at all-square. He then lost two of the remaining three holes to fall 2&1. Still, he returns to North America after winning the Lake Macquarie Championship and finishing tied for 12th at the Master of the Amateurs event. He is scheduled to defend his title at the Jones Cup Invitational as he continues preparing for his first appearance at the Masters this spring.
Blair Hamilton of Burlington, Ont. and Tony Gil of Vaughn, Ont. both took part in the South American Amateur Championship. Hamilton, who finished 12th, moved up a spot to No. 5 in the Canadian rankings while Gil, who finished 24th, slipped out of the top 10.
Ki Taek Lee makes his Canadian rankings debut at No. 12. The sophomore at Arizona State University has a pair of top 15 results in four tournament this season with Phil Mickelson's alma mater. The Korean-born Lee holds dual citizenship from Korea and Canada with his family immigrating to Winnipeg when he was seven, making another stop in Vancouver before finally moving to California so he could concentrate on playing golf. Last year at this time, he was making his PGA Tour debut after capturing medalist honours at the Waste Management Phoenix Open Monday qualifier. He would miss the weekend cut after carding rounds of 73-74. His first name is pronounced "Key-Tech," but his teammates simply call him Ki. "My American name is Kevin," he told Golfweek's Brentley Romine last year. "But there are a lot of Kevin Lee golfers out there." Asked on his ASU bio what is the one thing about himself that most people don't know, he responded, "I am Canadian".
On the women's amateur side, Jacklyn Lee climbed four spots in the Canadian rankins, up to No. 11 after the Golf Canada Development Team member made it to the second round of match play at the Australian Amateur before losing in extra holes.
