Chico State golfer Alistair Docerty

Alistair Docherty climbed 55 spots in the world amateur golf rankings on the strength of a runner-up finish at the Otter Invitational. It was the third career second place finish and his second in a row, enabling the Saint John, N.B. golfer to move from No. 12 up into the top 10 in Canada, settling in at No. 9. The junior All-American at Chico State, currently the fifth ranked collegiate golfer in the Division II Golfstat Cup Standings, was also named the California Collegiate Athletic Association's Golfer of the Week.

Outside the top 10, Brett Hogan picked up 89 spots in the world rankings after finishing eighth at the Price's Give Em Five Invite. It was his third top-10 result of the season. That helped the Calgary golfer go from No. 19 up to No. 15 in Canada. Hogan's 11-under 205 total eclipsed the UTSA 54-hole record, missing the school's all-time mark by just two strokes. The 205, which included a career-low round of 66, bettered his own best score by three shots.

Jack Wood gained 58 spots after finishing in a tie for 13th at the Otter Invitational, helping the UBC men's golf team to a second place result. The second year player from Banff, Alta. also moved up to No. 16 in the Canadian rankings.

On the women's side, Megan Osland of San Jose State moved back into the top 10 after picking up 49 spots in the world rankings.

World number one ranked Brooke Henderson has been recognized for her superb year in golf by being named a finalist for the 2014 Ontario Athlete of the Year award. The Smiths Falls, Ont. teen is looking to become only the second golfer ever to receive the Syl Apps Award. Mike Weir picked up the honour on three separate occasions in 1999, 200 and 2003. Others in the runner for the award, which is handed out by the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, include Kyle Lowry of the Toronto Raptors, Russell Martin of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays, tennis player Milos Raonic, jockey Patrick Husbands and Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks.
