Canadian partners with Norton Rose Fulbright LLP have elected a new national managing partner: Ottawa employment and labour lawyer Charles Hurdon.

Mr. Hurdon, currently the firm's Ottawa managing partner and a member of the firm's management committee, replaces the outgoing John Coleman, who did not stand for re-election.

It was under Mr. Coleman's leadership that the former Ogilvy Renault first merged with London-based international legal giant Norton Rose in 2011, bringing a new global competitor in to shake up Canada's legal marketplace.

Mr. Hurdon will begin a three-year term Jan.1, and Mr. Coleman is staying on to assist with the transition, the firm said in a statement.
