The former head of Canada's security industry regulator has joined Canada's newest trading venue, launched by Aequitas Innovations Inc.
Susan Wolburgh Jenah, former president and CEO of Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada, was appointed Chairwoman of the Aequitas NEO Exchange Inc.'s board of directors.
Ms. Wolburgh Jenah currently serves as a governor of U.S. industry regulator Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), sits on Laurentian Bank of Canada's board of directors and is a McMurtry visiting fellow at Osgoode Hall law school in Toronto.
Ms. Wolburgh Jenah has more than 30 years of industry experience. Prior to her time at IIROC, she spent 23 years in various senior positions at the Ontario Securities Commission before being appointed vice chairwoman.
The NEO Exchange board has a total of ten members, of which 50 per cent are independent directors – including the chair.
The four other independent directors include Vincent Chahley, a Calgary-based investor and corporate director; Dave Lauer, a market structure expert and president and managing partner of U.S.-based Kor Group LLC; Perry Dellelce, founder and managing partner of Wildeboer Dellelce LLP, and Alan Hutton, an investment industry veteran and former director of Alpha.
Five non-independent directors include Sheila Murray representing CI Financial Corp., Nick Thadaney representing ITG Canada, Bryan Thomson representing bcIMC, and Bardya Zaian representing BBS Securities, and Jos Schmitt, president and CEO of NEO Exchange.
