An out-of-control flying car crashed while trying to land last week in Vernon, B.C. The ‘Maverick’ uses a parasail for take-off and flight and needs a 100-metre runway. A Hunger for Twilight

New York-based MHR Fund Management made one smart investment when it picked up a 35-per-cent stake in Vancouver’s Lions Gate Entertainment, the studio that has he Hunger Games and Twilight series in its stable. As this Forbes story points out MHR’s Mark Rachesky, who is also co-chairman of Lions Gate, has profited to the tune of $1-billion (U.S.). A pretty good haul in today’s volatile markets.

Fast food chains + longer hours = more sales, right?

The logic is clear: the longer a fast food chain stays open, the more people come through the door or drive-in. The reality, however, is much murkier. Though fast food chains like McDonald’s Corp. and Burger King Corp. continue to extend operating hours, night hawks and early birds simply aren’t flocking (let alone spending) as predicted, leaving franchisees in a tough position, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Soleil Moon Frye, best known for her leading role on the 1980s TV series Punky Brewster, has teamed up with an entrepreneur named Kara Nortman to launch a parenting-focused business called Moonfrye, PandoDaily reports. The venture has already received $2.5-million (U.S.) in seed funding.
