Finding your feet in the small business world is no simple matter in this day and age. Faced with an endless barrage of predicaments and dilemmas, establishing yourself firmly on the road to sustainable success can often seem like a never-ending battle.

But you are not alone and your business quandaries are not unique to you. There's a whole community of like-minded people out there who have successfully overcome similar issues and are happy to share their experiences. That's where our TakeOff series comes in.

"For this series, we're handing over editorial control to our readers: small business owners and entrepreneurs," says Katherine Scarrow, Report on Small Business editor. "We're asking them to share the one big thing that's helped their company thrive, or the thing that's holding it back."

What have you experienced as a small-business leader that you want to put out there? Advice you would welcome? Strategies you would suggest?

"For example, perhaps setting up an e-commerce site opened your business to a new, untapped market," says Ms. Scarrow. "Or maybe you had a key business mentor who introduced you to the right investor at the time.

"Alternatively, perhaps a significant cash-flow problem is keeping you from investing in R&D, necessary to innovate your product line."

We want to hear from you. From April to July, the Globe and Mail will publish stories about the ideas most relevant to our readers, using feedback from industry experts and profiling selected businesses to discover the secrets of their success. To find out more about the series, watch this video: How to be featured in our new series TakeOff.

So submit your ideas for stories here and we'll do the rest.
