GM Canada tops in October sales

General Motors of Canada Ltd. edged out Toyota Canada Inc. for top spot in the monthly vehicle sales rankings in October.

GM Canada sold 18,859 cars and trucks, while the best October on record for Toyota boosted its sales to 18,813 vehicles.

Ford Motor Co. of Canada Ltd. posted a 20 per cent sales increase to finish a close third, while Honda Canada Inc. said its sales were flat from year-earlier levels, a better performance than the decline it has experienced in most months this year.

The fastest-growing auto maker in Canada, Hyundai Auto Canada posted its best October on record with a 43 per cent surge.
