Toronto Hydro says power has been restored following a significant outage in the city's west end.

Marylena Stea, a spokeswoman for Hydro One, confirmed that the outage, which began at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night, was a result of "an equipment issue on Hydro One's transmission system."

The neighbourhoods most affected by the outages were between Dupont Street up to Lawrence Avenue, and between Yonge Street on the east and all the way to Mississauga on the west.

Toronto Hydro spokewoman Christina Basil said that because the issue happened on Hydro One transmission equipment, she could not speculate the exact number of customers affected. But, she added, "I think it would be safe to say the tens of thousands for that area."

The Toronto Hydro power outage website, which maps outages across the city, is still down.

The Toronto Transit Commission said Tuesday night that subway service was suspended between Jane and St. George stations due to signal problems due to the outage, but service later resumed.

By about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night, some Twitter users began reporting that power had been restored in their areas. By about 11:00 p.m., Hydro One said it had begun to restore power to some of its customers.
