VANCOUVER - Dimitri Soudas, Prime Minister Stephen Harper's official spokesman, is a betting man. In fact, he's laying it all on the line - his ego, his pride and his fashion sense - for the Canadian Olympic women's hockey team.
Mr. Soudas has bet his U.S. counterpart, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, that if the American squad beats the Canadians tonight he will wear a Team USA jersey during his next briefing day when Parliament returns on March 3.
However, if Canada wins, Mr. Gibbs must wear a Team Canada jersey during his next press gaggle.
Update The White House press secretary is a loser. Mr. Gibbs lost his wager with Mr. Soudas, his Canadian counterpart, over the outcome of the Olympic women's hockey gold medal game. That means Mr. Gibbs will now have to wear a Team Canada jersey during his next press gaggle.
The Canadian women shut out the Americans; the score was 2-0. Mr. Soudas's boss, the Prime Minister, wore a Team Canada jersey at the game with Hayley Wickenheiser's name on the back while sitting with Wayne Gretzky and his wife, Janet.
