A judge has extended a temporary injunction that will keep the long-gun registry alive in Quebec at least until June.
Mr. Justice Marc-Andre Blanchard's ruling extends the injunction until mid-June.
Quebec Justice Minister Jean-Marc Fournier is holding a news conference later Friday to react to the decision.
The province wants to start its own registry using the federal data. It says it is entitled to information it helped gather, but Ottawa is refusing to hand over the information.
Ottawa argues Quebec should collect its own data if it wants up-to-date records. But the province says that causes financial harm when a registry already exists and is operational.
The two sides will be back in court in June to argue the merits of having the registry destroyed or having Quebec take over its portion of the data.
