RCMP in southwestern Nova Scotia are investigating after a needle was found in a potato.

Police say they were called to the Co-op Store in Lower Pubnico on Thursday where the store manager turned over a russet potato that a customer had just returned after finding a needle inside.

They say the potato was purchased from a P.E.I. company and sold in a shipment of 4.5 kilogram bags under the name Market Town.

The potatoes were put on sale on Oct. 2 for four hours before the store pulled the bags after being notified of a recall.

Police say although 62 bags were sold, no one was hurt and there have been no other reports of needles being found in the area.

The Mounties in P.E.I. are investigating after sewing needles were found in 10 potatoes.
