Talk about keeping the costs down.

A Pittsburgh couple tried (and failed) to pinch $1,049 worth of Wegmans' hors d'oeuvres ahead of their wedding reception later that afternoon.

With a tight wedding budget in mind, Arthur Phillips, 31, and his bride Brittany Lurch, 22, filled a shopping cart with ham, turkey, cheese and vegetable platters, soda and utensils – all the makings of a gastro affair.

They traipsed out without paying, and then returned, Bonnie-and-Clyde-bold, for a second round before placing a large seafood order.

Sensing that supermarket staffers were onto them, the newlyweds bailed before the order was ready. Police arrested and charged them with retail theft and receiving stolen property.

The couple told officers the finger foods were intended for their reception, scheduled for three hours later. Who wouldn't understand?

The pair missed their reception, sitting in jail on $2,500 bail.

While definitely an epic wedding fail, the Wegmans stunt is just one in a long tradition of massive matrimonial faux pas.

Remember the gal who slept and vomited simultaneously through a wedding toast? How about the boob-slapping DJ? What about the pole dancing aunt who brought a tent down onto the bride's face?

Perhaps it's best they never made the reception.

Stolen turkey platters and soda probably mean guests are exempt from bringing gifts, right?
