If style is a visual (rather than verbal) form of expression, why does design insist on giving the world so much lip? Ever since the Rolling Stones got tongues wagging with their iconic John Pasche-designed logo, kissers – both sensual and silly – have been cropping up on everything from track pants (see Markus Lupfer’s this season) to cellphone cases (ditto Stella McCartney). During her print-heavy show at Toronto Fashion Week, designer Haley Elsaesser sent several loud mouth motifs down the runway. Think of it as making a statement without saying a word.
