Sprott fund manager Eric Nuttall

For this week's live discussion at Inside the Market, we were joined by Eric Nuttall, portfolio manager with Sprott Asset Management, who covers the oil and gas industry.

This is Eric's third time joining us for a live discussion and it comes at an interesting time, with Canadian energy producers on a tear of late. Attractive valuations, strength in oil and gas prices, a lower Canadian dollar, and increased merger and acquisition activity are attracting more investment flows to the sector this year.

We found out his latest stock picks and heard his latest outlook for the energy sector.

The Sprott Energy Fund invests primarily in companies that are involved directly or indirectly in the exploration, development, production and distribution of oil, gas, coal, or uranium and other related activities in the energy and resource sector. In the 12 months to Feb. 28, it returned 22.46 per cent, compared with the group average of 10.42 per cent, according to Globe Investor data. Over the past five years, it has returned 18.66 per cent, versus the group average of 11.05 per cent.
