It took the automotive world by storm when it was introduced at the Detroit auto show in 2015, and now well-heeled consumers can finally buy a Ford GT.
Well, maybe. Ford has to like you first.
Ford announced Wednesday that it will produce 500 units of the sleek high-powered Canadian-made supercar over the next two years, starting with the "application process to help identify potential Ford GT owners."
What this means is buyers can't be just any schmo off the streets. Ford is looking for brand ambassadors. For example, one of the questions in the application asks that interested parties click all that apply:
- I am/was a Ford owner.
- I own a Ford vehicle.
- I/my company use Ford vehicles in business.
- My company is a supplier for the Ford Motor Company.
- I am/my company is a strategic alliance for Ford Motor Company.
- I/my company support Ford-affiliated charities.
- I am a collector.
- I consider myself an influencer of public opinion.
- I am a motorsport enthusiast.
- Other.
Of course, you'll also need more than $400,000 (U.S.) to catch Ford's attention. Maybe that's what it means by "other."
Ford is accepting online applications for the GT at newfordgt.ca until May 12.
The Ford GT's 3.5-litre EcoBoost powerplant will produce more than 600 horsepower and the car will be manufactured in Markham, Ont., by Multimatic.
