Halloween is New Year's Eve in the car business: Out with the old, in with the new.
Sales figures reflect how anxious car makers and their dealers are to clean out leftover 2014s. As DesRosiers Automotive Consultants reports, sales of the Toyota RAV4 rose 57 per cent last month, Nissan Rogue sales surged 83.5 per cent, and Chevrolet Silverado jumped 43 per cent. Rich deals in play? Correct.
On 2014 versions of all three, the factory is offering healthy sales sweeteners: $2,000 on the RAV4, $1,500 on the Rogue, and $4,500 on the Silverado – $5,500 if you jump on the 0.9-per-cent lease rate for 48 months. All the factories are also dealing with cut-rate finance and lease rates – 0-per-cent financing for 48 or 60 months on the Rogue, for instance.
Now the trick in these treats: vehicles dressed up with rich offers may not be in stock. If they are, you may have to settle for a colour you may not like, or features you may not want. The Rogue is one example of a model for which 2014s may be in short supply. This revamped compact SUV has been a hot seller all year, which means 2014 stocks are likely to be quite low.
That said, it's never a bad idea to poke and prod and inquire. Your local or preferred dealer may be able to track down a 2014 in stock at another store. Dealers commonly trade stock, so if you ask, you may receive.
