Fifi may be a lapdog, but that doesn't mean she should be sitting squarely on you while you drive. Looking down to pet the dog is dangerous and holding your canine companion so it can see outside is crazy.

To keep that loving feeling and the pint-sized pooch within smooching distance, consider a booster seat instead, for either the console or the passenger seat.

Kurgo seats suspend from the headrest and are secured using the seatbelt, holding dogs up to 30 pounds in a fluffy washable walled seat. They raise the dog high enough so it can see out the window. To keep the dog safe, its harness can be clipped to the tether.

The console style is for really small dogs, but it looks tricky to match your console to the size of restraining straps. It also impedes elbow space. Besides, does the dog really need to be that close?
